The Sanus Systems VP1 is the newer of the two projector mounts Sanus offers. The VP1 version has a better range of adjustability and a key and lock system that the other doesn’t have. Despite these improvements, the VP1 can’t be used with an angled ceiling and has a lower weight capacity than its predecessor – qualities we think are more important.

The Sanus VP1’s weight capacity maxes at 35 pounds. While you likely won't find a modern projector weighing anywhere near 35 pounds, a large weight capacity gives a sense of security that your projector is secure – especially when this projector mount allows your projector to descend 2.5 to 7 inches from the ceiling. A sturdy steel construction is also a reassuring feature.

You can fine-tune the projector’s location and projection with roll, tilt and rotation adjustments. Roll, or side to side, can be adjusted 4 degrees either way; pitch, or back and forth, can be tilted 15 degrees front to back; rotation around the base can be turned 10 degrees.

Sanus has been in the mounting business long enough to know the ins and outs of an easy installation. They’ve perfected the process to make installation as easy as possible. In the package with the mount you’ll find installation instructions, a user manual and all the mount hardware you’ll need to match your specific projector. The Sanus VP1 has a universal mounting pattern that should be compatible with every projector available on the market.

A hole in the very top of the mount provides the perfect place through which to inconspicuously thread the necessary cords to the projector. This cord management system helps with organization near the projector, but you will still have to find a way to conceal the cords running from the electric outlet up to the mount. Inevitably, you will need to maintain the projector either by cleaning or changing out light bulbs. Because the cords are securely held by the cord management system, you should be able to easily unhook the projector, activate the quick release feature of this mount and remove the projector. When you're done, simply pop the projector back in place and secure the release. For those who use this mount in a public location, a key and lock system is built in to protect your projector from theft. There is an area available to attach a lock.

The VP1 does not compensate for sloped ceilings. Although Sanus does offer a vaulted ceiling attachment, the VP1 is so new that the adapter isn’t compatible. If you are planning on using your projector in a room with an angled ceiling, you will need to pick a different projector mount.

If you run into trouble installing the projector or have questions before your purchase, we definitely recommend talking with a Sanus support representative. We called their support line with questions and were very impressed with the service we received. The rep walked us through the different features and specifications of the Sanus VP1 in an informative yet friendly way. Sanus also has an online support form you can use to reach support. This form comes in handy when you have a question past business hours. On top of the excellent customer support, Sanus offers a 10-year warranty on the VP1, guaranteeing it to be free of defects.

Summary:

We are truly impressed with the quality craftsmanship Sanus puts into each of their products, including the Sanus VP1. This handy little mount can do pretty much everything except work with a sloped ceiling. However, the Sanus representative we spoke with assured us that an adapter would soon be available.
