Vantage Point has many quality mounts in their product arsenal, one of which is the Vantage Point CGUPMPAX. This projector mount is unique compared to the other mounts in our lineup because it is designed to be a DIY project. Most projector ceiling mounts come with an extension pipe if they are advertised as an extendable mount. Not the CGUPMPAX. With this mount you have to purchase an extension pipe separately from a hardware store.

The area where the mount is installed to the projector is threaded to make room for a 1.5-inch drop pipe. There are obvious downsides to this design, most notably that you can’t even use the mount until you’ve purchased a pipe. However, there are advantages as well. Instead of purchasing a prefabricated extension that won’t work in your specific room, you have the power to customize the projector’s drop length. When we spoke with a Vantage Point customer service rep, they told us how any hardware store carries 1.5-inch pipe. All you have to do is purchase the length of pipe you would like and the store will even thread the ends for you. If the DIY aspect of this mount is too much for you, Vantage Point offers other fantastic projector mounts.

Because of the extra step you must go through to make the Vantage Point CGUPMPAX usable, we ranked it fairly low in the ease of installation category. However, after you’ve purchased the drop pipe, installing the mount to the projector and then to the ceiling is really quite simple. Vantage Point includes a detailed instruction manual and has additional support on their website. They even have an entire section on their website to help users understand the mounting process and how to install your products correctly.

Once you’ve figured out the drop pipe situation, you can use it to your advantage. Use the hollow part of the pipe to act as a cord management system, concealing the cords as they drop down to attach to the projector.

We contacted Vantage Point several times with questions about the CGUPMPAX. Needless to say, we had trouble wrapping our heads around the DIY concept implied with purchase of this mount because it is so different from the other projector mounts we've looked at. The VP support team responded quickly each time with detailed answers. In one email correspondence regarding the drop pipe, the customer support rep even sent pictures of what kind of pipe to look for at the hardware store. Vantage Point has two methods of contacting them: online through an email form or by phone. All of their products are guaranteed by a lifetime warranty, and we are very impressed by this inclusion. Vantage Point is one of only two manufacturers in our top 10 lineup who cover their products for the life of the mount.

Summary:

We’ll admit that the Vantage Point CGUPMPAX really got us thinking. We could see both pros and cons to purchasing such a mount. While this set up might provide some welcome customization for some consumers, others will prefer to go with an extendable mount that includes the extensions in the purchase.
